I spent today in the studio, and look forward to repeating the performance every free moment until I run out of time. I’m going to apply for advanced standing, and that’s going to require a portfolio more than twice as big as the one I was initially planning to create, so I’m getting a little freaked out. Anyways, enough being emo, here’s today’s work:

Outlines and finished render of a gift for a friend’s birthday. This was entirely ballpoint pen and mechanical pencil.

For people who know how big horses really are, in my defense, a little reading revealed that the Mongolian horde was probably riding animals that were closely related to Przewalski’s Horses. Tiny and adorable!

This was fun to do.

November is going to be a busy month for me, guys. First off, I’ve joined NaNoWriMo! You can follow my progress, or nag me about not making any progress, here.

Secondly, I’m hoping to have a new minicomic ready for Expozine. I went into the studio today to brush up on my drawing skills, but all I brought home from it was this drawing of the Depew Amtrak Station:

Thirdly, I’ve finally started work on a top secret project I’m doing with a friend of mine. Here’s a hint: it combines my two favourite things. Here’s a little idea sketch:

So yeah, stay on me about all this and hopefully I’ll have some fantastic stuff to show in a little while!

As for those thank-you cards, well, they’re taking a long time. As one might expect. I’ll keep you updated.

Hi! I had a fantastic time at Canzine, and while I didn’t exactly spread this link around, apparently people can find this blog and that’s kind of flattering in itself. So thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat, or picked up a print or two, and especially to all those kind souls who traded me their hard work for mine at the end of the day. My walls are beautiful now!

On the note of thanks, here’s the first of ten thank-you cards I will be creating for my hosts and pillars of support during my train trip last month. This one is going to Chicago:

I’ve been doodling a little, but I’m trying to finish a few more drawings before I load them up here. After talking to Mathew Borrett, I’ve decided it would be a good exercise to sit and finish more drawings with textures and details, so there’s a (not entirely accurate) drawing of a bear happening in my sketchbook right now, but I’m not done the background so I’m not sharing just yet.

In tandem with rethinking my process, I’m considering renting a shared studio space. Several of my friends are doing similar things and recommend it, and the artists I’ve visited in their studios seemed to have fantastic set-ups and positive feelings about it all. Perhaps it really is time to seperate leisure and art, eh? I suppose we’ll see how well it works.
